LETTER TO MY WHITE FRIEND

Dear white friend,
let me begin by saying that I love you, you are my brother and we are all one human family.  Recently, the injustices of this American nation have been highlighted and in all of the truth telling you got thrown under the bus, sorry about that.  I know you are not the problem, because if you are on my side you can’t be against me.  Just know that when I say white people, I am talking about the ones who either tacitly authorize the wrongs committed against black people, or the ones who are actively engaged in the oppression against us.

When I see you on Facebook, Twitter, or the daily news reel voicing your anger, frustration, and dis-approval at the wrongs being committed against us it makes me proud to know you and call you, my friend.  It doesn’t matter that you have no rhythm at all, couldn’t rap to save your life, or that you smell like a puppy when your hair is wet, because its just one of those things.  Things like me having to borrow money all of the time, or me wanting to eat at Church’s chicken whenever we go out.

In all of the upheaval over the latest that’s going on in our country, I don’t want our friendship to be lost.  Inside of you lies the progressive mind that loves me, or judges me based on what I do, or don’t do as a person, as opposed to my dreadlocks, or the blackness of my skin.  I still don’t want to have dinner at your house because you know your wife’s food is tasteless (no salt at all), and I hate anything called salad that has nothing green in it. Still, I thank God for you and your stance toward solidarity with the oppressed peoples on the earth.  I honor your character and your consciousness.  You stand up for what you believe is right and you are part of the solution, not part of the problem.  Love you Bro.

P.S.  I’m going to pay you back when I get my income tax check.
